Entry terms

Last updated: 21 October 2026

1. Organiser

The application for starting places at the day one Backyard Ultra 2027 (the "event") is organised by DayOne Performance GmbH, Aaron Bernstein Platz 3, 10117 Berlin, Germany, registered at Amtsgericht Hamburg under HRB 186149 ("day one", "we"). Contact: support@day-1.com. By applying, athletes accept these entry terms.

2. The event and the starting place

2.1The event takes place in Spain in March 2027. The venue and exact dates will be announced on www.dayoneultra.com. Format: athletes run one loop of 6.7 km / 4.167 miles every hour until only one athlete remains.

2.2The prize in this application is a starting place, and only a starting place: the right to register for the event under the race rules, which will be published before registration opens.

2.3Entry is free; there is no entry fee for athletes. Travel, accommodation, meals, insurance, equipment and all other costs are borne by the athletes themselves.

2.4Prize money and other awards at the event itself are governed by the race rules.

2.5Starting places are personal and cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged for cash.

3. Free participation and emails

Applying is free and does not require a purchase. Applicants agree that DayOne Performance GmbH may contact them by email about their application, the event, athlete updates and day one offers. Only day one sends these emails. Athletes can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email; this does not affect their application.

4. Who can apply

4.1Natural persons who are at least 18 years old and physically fit for an endurance event of unlimited duration.

4.2Employees of DayOne Performance GmbH and of the companies involved in organising the event, members of the jury and their immediate family members cannot take part.

4.3One application per person. We may exclude applicants who give false information, apply more than once or manipulate the process, including after selection.

5. How to apply and deadline

5.1Lottery: athletes apply via the form on www.dayoneultra.com with full name and email address. Their best races and their story are optional.

5.2Applications (lottery and wildcard) are accepted until February 2027 (the "closing date"). Later applications are not considered.

5.3The information must be true. Stories and videos must not infringe the rights of others.

6. Selection

6.1After the closing date, part of the starting places are awarded by a jury of DayOne Performance GmbH based on the athletes' stories and race history. The remaining starting places are drawn at random in February 2027 from all other eligible entries. In the draw, every eligible entry has the same chance.

6.2The jury's decision is final. There is no right to a starting place.

6.3If a starting place is not accepted in time, we may offer it to another applicant.

7. Wildcard

7.1Starting places can also be won as a wildcard. Athletes create a video showing why they should get a starting place, post it on Instagram or TikTok (posting on both is welcome but not required), tag @day1 on Instagram or @dayone on TikTok and use the hashtag #dayoneultra. The post must be public. The jury selects the wildcards; section 6.2 applies.

7.2Athletes must hold all rights to their video, including the rights of people and music shown or used in it.

7.3By posting with #dayoneultra, athletes grant day one the free, non-exclusive right to repost, share and use their video, with credit to them, on day one's own channels (including the website, social media and newsletters) in connection with the event, worldwide and for an unlimited period. Athletes can ask us to stop using their video in the future at any time via support@day-1.com; content already published does not have to be removed.

7.4This promotion is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram or TikTok.

8. Notification and acceptance

We notify selected athletes by email (wildcard winners by direct message or email). They must accept their starting place within 7 days of our message, otherwise it lapses and may be offered to another applicant. Incorrect contact details are the applicant's responsibility.

9. Own risk and race rules

Participation in the event requires registration and acceptance of the race rules. A backyard ultra is an extreme endurance event; athletes take part at their own risk and are responsible for their fitness.

10. Changes, postponement and cancellation

We may change, extend or end the application early if it cannot be carried out properly for technical, legal or organisational reasons. If the event is postponed, starting places remain valid for the new date.

11. Liability

We are fully liable for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. For simple negligence we are liable only for breach of essential obligations, limited to typical foreseeable damage. Otherwise our liability is excluded.

12. Data protection

Details on how we process applicants' data are in our privacy notice.

13. Applicable law

German law applies. For consumers, this choice of law applies only insofar as it does not remove protection granted by mandatory provisions of the law of the country where they habitually reside.
